The high tension cables were attached to turnbuckles which were in turn bolted to the cement pier base in the crawl space.  A larger angle between the cables and pier would have been better but could not be achieved without  a major alteration to the house.  As it was, additional holes had to be drilled to pass the cables at the maximum achievable angle short of moving the walls.  None of the cables touch the house in any way once they were tightened.  The turnbuckles had not yet been tightened when this photo was taken.
