North side of Arrakis Observatory.
One of the two powered arms is partially demonstrated at the left side of the observatory. The distal unseen end of this powered arm connects to another shaft that extends through the rear bottom edge of the observatory roof. Power is supplied to the arm through the shaft at the base of this arm which penetrates the wall of the observatory. The other end of this shaft, inside the observatory, has a large sprocket on it that is chain driven. There is an identical powered arm on the other side of the observatory roof. The arms are kept in sync to prevent twisting motions with chains and keyways.
The roof will lift up, over and down in an arc when power is supplied to the drive arms. There will be limit switches to tell the control circuitry when the full open and full closed positions have been attained.
